From Tuesday 20 July, Bookwise in Goose Gate, Nottingham, will extend the days we are open from four to five. Our new opening hours are

Tuesday to Saturday 11.00am to 4.00pm

We hope to keep this going permanently and eventually add Monday opening, too, but it depends on Nottingham coming through the Covid-19 unlocking well. We are continuing to follow covid-security protocols to keep the shop environment safe and we would appreciate it very much if customers would do their bit and continue to wear masks in the shop and also to use the gloves or hand sanitiser so that everyone stays safe handling books.

Your support and co-operation since re-opening in May have been fantastic. Thank you so much. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Welcome back to Bookwise! Our shop in Goose Gate Nottiingham will re-open on Wednesday 14th April and we very much look forward to seeing regular customers once more and making the acquaintance of new ones.

In the week of 12 April, we will be open Wednesday to Saturday inclusive and our opening hours will be

11am to 4pm

If the national roadmap continues to roll out unimpeded, we hope to extend opening days and times gradually over coming weeks – please watch this space.

We have newly-donated stock on sale in many sections, including History and Art, as well as sheet music and CDs. Come and see!

The shop retains all the covid-secure arrangements that were operated before the latest lockdown. Your co-operation in following these will be much appreciated.

December is always a wonderful time at Bookwise. We have many special ‘As New’ books in almost every subject area, and some beautifully illustrated Foilio Society books and vintage/antique volumes. They all make fabulous Christmas presents, at very favourable prices. During lockdown we have replenished stocks of our more everyday books too, so you can also snap up a few bargains to provide your own perfect reading for the Christmas/New Year break.

Dear Bookwise Customers

We are very sad that our lovely shop is closed, like almost everything else, because of the corvid-19 regulations.  Thank you so much – donors and customers – who have helped to make Bookwise Goose Gate such a resource for so many people, a great fund-raiser for Music for Everyone (every penny goes to them) and such a pleasure to volunteer in.

We can hardly wait for the day when all this will be over, we take down the shutters and welcome you all back through the door once more!

While you are stuck at home, perhaps you will sort through your bookshelves and pick out a few great books that you feel able to donate to us.  Please keep them on one side.  Books on any subject – and sheet music or CDs – in good condition are welcome, but we have a big demand for paperbacks in these categories:

contemporary fiction   literary classics   Shakespeare plays   poetry

local interest   philosophy   history   archaeology   art history   fine art   sport

Greek and Roman classics in translation   photography   psychology   popular science

Keep well everyone, keep reading!

All best wishes, Your Bookwise Team

November is National Novel Writing Month.  Bookwise in Goose Gate featured as the filming location for a Notts TV package promoting it.  Three interviewees appeared on the Ey Up Notts magazine programme but of course we like to think that the bookshop backdrop was the star of the show!  Watch the package by clicking here – second item, about 7 minutes in.

Delighted, through this event, to have met Matt Turpin from Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature and to have started to link Bookwise into our city’s great project.

Bookwise Goose Gate was delighted to host the film crew of Adrift in Soho a while back, for a couple of scenes demanding a ‘retro’ bookshop setting.  Lots more Nottingham locations feature in this acclaimed independent film of the 1961 cult novel  by Colin Wilson.  Free viewing at 12 noon on 19 November at the Broadway Cinema – make sure you book ahead – asap.  Since the filming, Bookwise has grown bigger and even better of course – come and see.
